The global market for flax fiber experienced a major upheaval in 2023, and the flax price increased continously.
Especially western Europe, the major countries where flax is planted, have been effected by the adverse climate . The whole cycle of linen growth has been severely affected from seed sowing to falx harvesting . Specifically, not only did the yield significantly decrease by 26% to 36%, but the continuous rainfall during the retting process also seriously affected the quality and length of the fibers. The result is that the production of long flax fibers in 2023 is just about half of what it was in 2020.
However, the global demand for natural linen fibers continues to grow, especially the pursuit of long flax. This imbalance between demand and supply may lead to further price increasing.
